Hole in the Wall Motorcycle Stop offers a place to shop

By Stephanie Parker

“Outside the Cage” Bandera County Courier columnist Ed Longhurst fulfilled a 37-year-old dream this year when he opened Hole in the Wall Motorcycle Stop behind Silver Saddle Realty in Pipe Creek.

“I’ve always wanted to do this,” Longhurst said with enthusiasm. “I’ve been riding bikes since I was 14 – that makes 42 years now – and I’ve wanted to open my own motorcycle stop since 1972.”

Longhurst has opened plenty of other businesses over the years. He and wife Karen also operate Silver Saddle Realty and Jackalope Gifts at the same location. Like Ed, Karen loves to ride motorcycles and owned her own motorcycle in the past.

Also known as “Captain Ed” for his role as road captain for the Cowboy Capital Motorcycle Club, Longhurst explained, “This is not a motorcycle repair shop. It’s a motorcycle stop. It’s a place to buy gear and accessories for motorcycles and a place to kick back and relax while you’re on your way.”

The name of the shop, Longhurst noted, was taken from “Hole in the Wall” gathering places plentiful in the old west. Friend Steve Williams added, “This is a place where like-minded people can get together and enjoy camaraderie.”

Camaraderie is freely given, Longhurst pointed out, not sold. However, items for sale include oil; men’s and women’s motorcycle apparel; helmets including custom painted helmets by Bonz; gloves, chaps, parts, children’s gifts and apparel including western wear from Jackalope; and snacks.

Hole in the Wall specializes in hospitality, offering snack tables inside, picnic tables outside and a campfire for cool evenings. Camping spaces will be available soon and the motorcycle shop plans a grand opening for March.

Along with hospitality, Longhurst issued another invitation. “The Cowboy Capital Motorcycle Club meets here on Sunday mornings and rides out at 8:15 am to eat breakfast at Keese’s Barbecue in Medina. Anyone who wants to ride out with us should show up here before 8:15 am, he said”

Hole in the Wall Motorcycle Stop is located at 8884 Highway 16 in Pipe Creek behind Silver Saddle Realty. It is open from 8 am until late on Friday and Saturday and opens at 10:30 am on Sunday – after the Medina breakfast ride.

The telephone number is 210-326-8541
